Application of Proportional Electric Proportional Valve in Pneumatic Torque Gun Control

Pneumatics can be used to provide precise, simple and repeatable remote torque gun control.

In this sketch, QB2 is guiding the PSR series amplifier, which controls the pressure of the torque gun. The torque sensor provides direct feedback to the QB2. This feedback uses a 0-10 VDC analog signal that represents the entire torque range of the sensor.

QB2 is calibrated at 0-10 VDC = 0-100 PSI-in this case, 100 PSI will produce the maximum torque on the torque gun. The customer's process uses 6 specific torques, so a selector switch is used to provide 6 specific output VDCs. These VDCs are command signals to QB2. In this process, a 50% command to QB2 will be equivalent to 50% (torque gun capacity) torque.
