Application of Proprotion-air Electric Proportional Valve in Knife Force Control


 
In food processing, pneumatic knives can be used to cut or slice products during the manufacturing process. It is essential to provide repeatable knife force control for product consistency. In this figure, the sausage is sliced with a knife before final packaging and inspection. QB3 is controlling the pressure of the cylinder to control the force required to cut the sausage. The signal of QB3 is calibrated so that the force is highest in the middle of the sausage, and then the signal gradually decreases as it approaches the end of the cut. The reversing valve is used to reverse the direction of the knife.
 
The QB3's high forward and reverse flow rates make it the perfect pressure controller for this application because it can react quickly to fill/discharge the cylinder when it receives a command.
