Hydrogen fuel cell pressure sensor
As the market for vehicles and equipment powered by hydrogen fuel cells continues to grow, so does the demand for hydrogen-compatible pressure sensors to safely monitor common uses such as dispensing and high-pressure storage.
Hydrogen is commonly used as an alternative fuel source in the following situations:
· Forklift and lift truck
· Power generation
· Commercial vehicles (buses, trucks, etc.)
· Car Class
Hydrogen poses difficulties for the pressure sensor when selecting the correct sensor configuration. Two of the most common sensor problems in hydrogen applications are hydrogen embrittlement and hydrogen permeation.
When a hydrogen atom (H 2) split into two independent hydrogen ions (H +), hydrogen permeation occurs. This separation occurs under specific process conditions, typically at high pressure and temperature. These hydrogen ions are small enough to pass through the molecular structure of the thin metal membrane.
Hydrogen embrittlement is a decrease in mechanical properties due to direct contact of the sensor diaphragm metal with hydrogen. The right choice of materials is ideal for resisting hydrogen embrittlement. Common sensor materials should be avoided (e. g.17-4 stainless steel) and nickel-based alloys (e. g.Inconel 718).
Hydrogen provided by our companyThe pressure sensor, sensor and transmitter product line is designed to overcome these complexities and provide high quality for your hydrogen application/Long life solution.
Fluid-filled sensor diaphragms are highly susceptible to hydrogen permeation and should be avoided. Hydrogen ions passing through the thin membrane will form hydrogen bubbles in the filling liquid, causing zero displacement and span displacement. Over time, these bubbles can expand and cause the diaphragm to expand and eventually fail, causing the filling fluid to leak and contaminate the process.
The core sensor uses316L stainless steel solid parts, no fluid filled cavity,ORing and other sealing materials and welded joints. This sturdy stainless steel sheet contains hydrogen in the pressure port, eliminating the possibility of the medium escaping or breaking down metal, which is common in two-piece sensor designs.
